Considering how many choral singers have LJ accounts these days, we thought it was time that undergraduate choral singers in Perth had its own LJ community!
Most of the members here will likely be members of the Perth Undergraduate Choral Society, which is based at UWA, but has members from universities around Perth. Hence the name of this group. This is an unofficial community. We are not officially linked to PUCS, nor do we influence committee decisions.
We welcome to this community anyone who is participating in an undergraduate choir in Perth. Perhaps you are considering joining, but want to get to know some people before you do! Feel free to ask questions about singing in PUCS or other choirs.
A Rampant Beginner?
You don't have to be a six footer, you don't have to have a great brain...oh, hang on, wrong song. *ahem*
To be in a choir, you don't have to be able to read music (as long as you listen carefully and pay attention to the conductor) and you don't have to be a confident singer or a soloist (lord knows there are enough of them, you'll be beating them off with a stick). Many people come into these choirs having had no choral experience prior to joining, and develop their singing and reading skills over time. You'll receive lots of enthusiastic help if you do decide to join.
PUCS is particularly groovy because it does a wide variety of choral music, at a particularly good level for an unauditioned choir. Yes, that's right, you don't have to audition to be a member of PUCS. More information about joining can be found here.
More Experienced *wink wink say no more*
If you're an experienced choral singer, who wants a more social experience at the same time as being in a decent choir with younger voices, you should give PUCS a try. Many members have years of music theory and performance experience, so you can meet with likeminded people.
That's All Folks!
Treat this community as a casual interaction, not some boring announcement type of group. Post whenever you want, about whatever you like. Get to know your fellow chorister and have some fun!
Member of PUCS since 1997.
